Sakhouy Lay is attorney committed to providing high quality, aggressive representation in criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation. Ms. Lay is an experienced attorney and has represented hundreds of clients in a variety of family, civil, and criminal and traffic matters from felonies to misdemeanors throughout the State of Maryland. She handles high conflict domestic disputes involving protective and peace orders and guides clients through family law matters including divorce, custody battles, and modifications.
Ms. Lay seeks to understand each client’s goals and objectives. She carefully prepares for all hearings and trials, listening to her clients and helping them attain the most favorable and practical solutions available. The court process can be intimidating and notoriously complex for all litigants. All cases require meticulous attention to details. We will work together with you to understand your goals and achieve the best possible outcome in your case whether your case requires aggressive litigation or creative settlement efforts.
As a Montgomery County, Maryland native, Ms. Lay utilizes her intuitive understanding of the area to the benefit of her clients.
Ms. Lay is admitted to practice before all state courts in Maryland, as well as the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
CAREER HISTORY
While in law school, Ms. Lay worked as a student attorney with the Wisconsin Innocence Project where she investigated and litigated post-conviction innocence claims and with the Forensic Science Reform Committee on a legislative proposal to strengthen forensic science in Wisconsin. She’s also represented juvenile clients for the Wisconsin Public Defender’s Office as a law student.
Always interested in public interest, Ms. Lay taught with Teach for America at a public school in Southeast Washington, DC, prior to her career as an attorney.
EDUCATION
Ms. Lay completed her undergraduate coursework at University of Wisconsin-Madison and Princeton University. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Law School and her Masters of Arts in Teaching from American University in Washington, DC.
